The 12th WVO Conference & International Vegan Festival 2024

Jakarta, November 12, 2024 – The World Vegan Organisation (WVO), in collaboration with the Indonesia Vegetarian Society (IVS) and the Vegan Society of Indonesia (VSI), proudly announces the upcoming 12th WVO Conference and International Vegan Festival 2024, to be held from November 12–17, 2024, at Mall Taman Anggrek, West Jakarta.

With the theme “Vegan for the Earth and Humanity: Small Steps, Big Impact,” this international event will serve as a convergence point for experts, global vegan organization leaders, practitioners, activists, entrepreneurs, communities, and the general public who share a passion for health, sustainability, and animal welfare.

Why Vegan? A Movement Beyond the Plate

“Veganism isn’t just about what we eat—it’s a commitment to a healthier planet and a better life for all,” says Dr. Susianto, Founder and President of both WVO and VSI. “Even small individual choices, when adopted collectively, can create massive positive change for the Earth and humanity.”

Vegan for the Planet

  • Reduce Carbon Footprint: Animal agriculture is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Shifting to plant-based diets is one of the most effective ways to combat climate change.

  • Preserve Natural Resources: Producing plant-based food requires significantly less land, water, and energy than animal products.

  • Prevent Deforestation: Reducing demand for animal products can help minimize land clearing for livestock and feed crops, protecting precious rainforests.

Vegan for Humanity

  • Boost Public Health: A diet rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes can lower the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

  • Combat Stunting: Nutrient-dense plant foods can play a vital role in addressing childhood stunting, especially in resource-rich yet nutrition-challenged areas across Indonesia.

  • Support Mental Well-being: Studies show that plant-based diets are linked to better mood, reduced anxiety, and lower depression rates.

  • Enhance Global Food Security: Plant-based agriculture is more efficient, making food more available and affordable for everyone.

  • Reduce the Risk of Future Pandemics: By minimizing reliance on intensive animal farming, we can lower the risk of zoonotic disease outbreaks such as COVID-19, SARS, and Avian Flu.
